DW saw a story today about "The Sopranos" being syndicated. Evidently, they filmed alternative scenes along the way to make the show less objectionable to people who get bothered by sex and violence on television. I'll stick with the HBO version. Posted by Hello

I always go for more sex and violence myself. ;-) It is interesting, however, that the directors bothered to film alternate scenes for a TV series. They don't even do it that often for feature films anymore. The last one I remember was Ghostbusters, where they filmed alternate scenes for theatrical release vs. television. So, my question is: did they succumb to the pressure of possible censorship, or were they merely being business-savy to raise the number of possibilities for syndication?

I'm pretty sure that HBO did the same thing with Sex in the City.

"Sex and the City" with no sex? How would that work? I've never seen that show, BTW, so I'm asking from total ignorance. I wonder how they'll handle the bowling bag scene in "The Sopranos." Will they put a ball in the bag and leave the viewers scratching their heads? Or will viewers just be left with the impression that Ralphie's head was severed and dropped into the bag? I thought the scene as it was done, with the head and everything, was an appropriate and grand exit for Joe Pantoliano's character.
