Today's daily zen is that I've signed up for a meditation class at the New Orleans Zen Temple. I previously had the impression that those folks were too churchy for my liking right now, but I gave it a second thought and decided to do the class. I was comforted to find that the NOZT has moved from a nice, comfy building downtown to a dumpy old marine-supply warehouse in the Bywater, with the marine-supply logo still on the front of the place. Maybe they aren't so churchy after all.

That WILL be interesting. The Power of Place. I don't know about you, but when I go someplace where the surroundings are formal and fancy, I try to match my insides and outsides to it, which is often a strenuous effort.
When I'm in an informal "backwater" dive, I probably do everything I can to project the impression that I don't really belong there at first, but would become more relaxed the minute I found out the other people there weren't going to break out the hypodermic needles and have a crack party. I think this will be a fun experience :)

Hi, Rayo, and welcome. Thanks for your comment. By religious, I mean dogmatic, doctrinaire, and ceremonial. I like to think of my nascent practice of the way as more spiritual and philosophical than as religious.
