A couple of weeks ago, I got a quasi-promotion at work -- with no corresponding raise, unfortunately.  This quasi-promotion entails me occasionally reviewing other attorneys' work, in addition to writing up my own caseload.  Three or four other attorneys are in the same position I'm in.  In the past week I've reviewed two memoranda written by other lawyers, and I find myself being more heavy-handed than I would have thought.  However, I can't think of any changes I wouldn't suggest if I were to look at those two cases again.  Moreover, I've been told that the ultimate readers of these memoranda look to see who reviewed them in case of screw-ups, and I'm cognizant of the need to establish my bona fides as a reviewer with them.  Additionally, this is my new boss's first big change since taking over the office at the beginning of the year, and it would help his standing (and, therefore, my own standing) if this works out.  Finally, we're looking at the possiblity of a RIF due to budget issues in the near future, and I want to be keep my job.

Craig, a couple of your neighbors may have my picture on their office dart boards right now.

I believe that there is an upstairsian wearing a hat very similar to yours who has my picture on a dart board - but for altogether different reasons.

Upstairsian is a wonderful word. It is a new addition to my vocabulary. Thank you, Craig.

Randy, you're such a good writer, than any suggestions you make are bound to be good ones. Be thorough. The job of a reviewer is a make a better paper. Just my .02.

I would comment, but I'm afraid you would put red lines through it and write corrections in the margin and give it back to me. So I won't. But I agree with the foregoing comments. Forgoing. Gorfoing. (Nothing looks right.. write? anymore :(

LOL (seriously, I am LOL). Yeah Brenda, I know why you are afraid R would 'red line' your remarks, snerk! Let's just say it's something about 'projection' (miss I'm gonna point out everything you do that's wrong grammatically .... I promised I wouldn't hit her because she is wearing glasses) :)

OK, back to the rest of you's. I trust Randy not to give a shit about my weak writing. :) So I am back again to blog all over his blog.

Randy, isn't calling it a "quasi-promotion" just a device for making it sound like you didn't get screwed. Obviously you've been assigned this responsibility because you are capable but....

I'm going to stop now because I think I'm just being a buzz kill.

Well, the Flames are playing tonight, so I’m getting into my normal “cheer them on” mode. Might as well practice on you, Randy.
