I've already deleted my first audio clip, hoping I could sound like I had a higher IQ the second time. I think it sunk 20 points the second time. Is my voice going to be the "deal breaker?" Will everyone decide I'm too much of an idiot to bother with? Damn Utah accent.... (grumble grumble)
By the way, why don't you have some kind of Southern accent? I detected nothing.
I grew up in Oklahoma. Neither of my parents had a Southern accent either, so it just didn't happen. I know how to say New Orleanisms like "makin' groceries," "fixin' ta," "over by my house," and "how's your momma an' 'em?," but it doesn't quite work coming out of my mouth.
BTW, Phoebe, there was nothing wrong with your first voice posting. Like I said, my DW's family has that same accent identifying them with the Wasatch Front. What I really cringe at are Wis-CAHN-sin and Chi-CAH-go accents.
Michiganders and Ohioans have softer pronunciations than those people a little further west. It's those harsh vowels that sometimes scape my nerves when I'm listening to folks from Illinois and Wisconsin. I have a good friend from Connecticut whose harsh consonants are a little jarring. I love regional differences in this homogeneous day and age, however, so I should be glad that those people don't sound just like me.
I once told a Michigander that he sounded Canadian. Boy was he pissed!

Randy! That was awesome! Your voice is great, you idiot. Why do you downplay yourself so much?
Did you have to make your profile link work for the audio clip to show up, or did the audio clip show up all on its own after you called it in?
I didn't need to change my profile at all. It posted by itself after I punched "1" at the end of the call.
